A Reminder For When You Need a Miracle
One of my favorite displays of God’s grandeur is witnessing the transformation of dark to light.
During our family’s annual visit to the mountains each summer, I am naturally beckoned outside at dawn just as the sun is beginning to rise. Because the apex of mountains cover the horizon from left to right, I am invited to simply look up and wait. Slowly, but surely, the morning sun begins to highlight each tree as mountains awake from evening slumber.
Branch by branch light pushes away darkness in the heights while inch by inch the ground is illuminated by rays of sun that reach its depths. Not a layer is neglected. It is astounding.
Only when each tip of tree and edge of leaf is reached, do I take notice of the vibrant contrast of green mountain to blue sky. Anticipation builds and the miracle of morning displays itself once again.
Now I am back home looking out at the flat terrain that is our Texas backyard. Only a few simple trees in view, yet I peer longingly through our smudged windows and take hold of the miracle once again. It captivates me enough to keep my undivided attention.
A week of solo-parenting while my husband is traveling, rocky back to school rhythms, and constant demands tempt me to stay in bed just a moment longer, but I know what is good for my soul.
I need the daily reminder of the transformation from dark to light.
I need the daily reminder that God once again orders my day and my night.
I need the daily reminder that He is capable of illuminating the darkness in my heart and my mind.
How about you?
Where are you most tempted to sit in darkness? Where do anxious thoughts threaten your ability to see God’s goodness on display before you? Where do you grumble? Where do you hide?
We pray for a miracle when we are battling a chronic illness or when we are praying for a child to come back to the Lord. But, the reality is we all are in search of a miracle each and every day, aware of it or not, just to keep us going. Am I right?
In fact, if we are honest, we are desperate to remember there is a God working for our protection, our comfort, our healing, and our salvation on a daily basis.
For the times we feel His absence, or the times we feel His silence, may we be awakened to His constant presence in our lives by acknowledging the miracle of morning.
As we go about our days, may the morning not be something you dread, or simply the way to usher in another repetitive day, but a tangible expression of God’s miracle-working hands.
If God can turn darkness into light, He can and will show up for you today in ways that are seemingly impossible.
Isaiah 42:16 ESV - “I will turn the darkness before them into light, the rough places into level ground.”
