Don’t Zone Out

Going on vacation, whether it’s Spring Break or any other time, involves a myriad of factors. Endless amounts of time, money and energy go into planning time away, even for an overnight trip. Will the weather cooperate? Will everyone stay healthy? Have I stayed within the budget?

As parents, we want these vacations to matter. We want the experiences filed away in our kids memory bank, we want the investment to reap fruit deep in their heart for years to come, and we want for joy and peace to abound. How do we balance our desire for rest with with our desire for memorable experiences? Those two goals may seem to be at odds with each other, so we are tempted to zone out as a parent and allow our children to zone out on their devices in order to create that peace.

May I encourage you to be intentional even in your rest?

I have put together a few ideas for how to engage with your family on vacation. Our four kids are ages 12 and under, but I believe some of these are helpful for any age - even if it’s for you and your spouse!
